Timothy Otte (he/they) is a poet, critic, and sometimes playwright. They are the author of the chapbooks Rebound, Restart, Renew, Rebuild, Rejoice (Lithic Press, 2019) and 12 from Psalms After Jamme (Furious Beautiful Zines, 2024).
Otte's poems have appeared in Denver Quarterly, Sixth Finch, Luna Luna Magazine, Noir Sauna, and Tagvverk, among others. His criticism and reviews have appeared in LitHub, Colorado Review, and Chicago Review of Books. Otte was a 2014-15 Loft Mentor Series winner, a fellow at the 2017 Poetry Incubator organized by Crescendo Literary and the Poetry Foundation, and recipient of a 2019 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative grant. In 2016, their poems were used in an hour long piece of music titled "FEATHERMUCKER" by composer Ted Moore and premiered by The Dream Songs Project (Alyssa Anderson and Joseph Spoelstra), a recording of which can be purchased on Bandcamp. The Sometimes Grace of Saint Simon of the Water is Otte's first play. It is a long poem with stage directions meant to be both read and performed, and was first produced in 2011. Directed by Ted Eschweiler and performed by Matt Ouren, it was described as "what a one-person show can and should be at its best, but rarely is" (here). A mentor with the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop, they write an occasional newsletter called Stanza Break and works as a children's bookseller. Say their last name like body. |
