Birthday Resolutions

2/12/2015

It's my birthday month, so here are some links and goals.
  • First of all, here is the video of my Loft Mentor Series reading on January 23rd. This is what I look like while reading poems.
  • Secondly, I'm pleased to share that the first and last poems I read here will appear in the Fall issue of the minnesota review.
  • The next Mentor Series Reading is on February 20th, featuring Matt Rasmussesn, Karlyn Coleman, and Jennifer Krueger.
  • Latest review: If the Tabloids Are True What Are You?  which made me say, more than once, "I want to be Matthea Harvey when I grow up."
  • My friend Carl Atiya Swanson wrote this great piece about why you should always pay artists.
  • Which is why I'm so excited by Jessica Piazza's new project, Poetry Has Value, which features a list of poetry journals that pay.
  • You can pay me for my poems: my chapbook, Blues for Jocasta is available for $5.

As I mentioned, my birthday is this month. Here are some resolutions for my next year:
  1. Publish new poems
  2. Submit poems to non-U.S. English-language journals
  3. Get paid for poems (minimum 50% submissions to paying journals)
  4. Finish FEATHERMUCKER
  5. Write a new poem a week
  6. Find a new favorite poem a week
  7. Read the books on my shelves that I haven't gotten to yet

How you doing on the books on your shelves?? There's so much to read! I should make this a goal for myself, too.

It's coming along! It's a long list, and somehow keeps getting longer. I also took a detour down the road of books by writers teaching in programs I'm considering applying to. But I've still managed to chip away at my list!
